A MINI-RETREAT
“Women in the Old Testament Who Manage to Find a Way When There is No Way”
Saturday, January 25, 2025 9:00 - 11:30 a.m.
St. Paul Lutheran Church
1100 Indian School Rd NE (just west of University Blvd)
Our leader, the Rev. Dr. Nancy Bowen is Professor Emeritus of Old Testament at Earlham School of Religion (Richmond, IN) (ESR). ESR is a seminary in the tradition of The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). She is also an ordained United Methodist minister. Now retired, she returned to her hometown of Albuquerque. She is also a proud graduate of Eldorado High School (’74), the first class to have gone all four years.
We will spend some time reflecting on some of Nancy’s favorite stories of women in the Old Testament who manage to “find a way”. If you’d like to be prepared, they are:
Hagar (Genesis 16:6-13; 21:13-21)
Tamar (Genesis 38)
The midwives, Shiprah and Puah (Exodus 1:15-22)
The medium of Endor (1 Samuel 28)
We will gather at 9:00 a.m. for registration and fellowship over a light breakfast of casseroles and fruit, followed by the program at 9:30.
Two collections will be taken: One for CWU and one for the non-profit, SARANAM, which empowers families to end their homelessness and poverty through housing, education and supportive communities. A basket will be at the end of the food table for a freewill offering if desired. Those wishing to donate needed items for Saranam’s families may bring shampoo, conditioner, Body Wash, Kids 2-in-1 Shampoo & Wash, women’s deodorant, Sensitive Baby Wipes, Baby Wash & Shampoo, baby lotion, Diaper Rash Cream/Ointment.
Come join us and bring a friend!
